What is Vertigo ?

Vertigo is a disorder in which partient complains of spinning of his body in relation to environment or vise versa.

Vertigo is categorized as :

  • Central
  • Peripheral

Central vertigo is directly related to Central Nervous System and peripheral vertigo is due to involvement of Labyrinth which is a balance control part of inner ear.

In case of peripheral certain changes occurs in labyrinth which may be either due to increase in endolymph fluid volume or pressure or because of change in position of otolyths from utricles and sacules into semicircular canals.

To Diagnose vertigo certain tools are required like ENG, VNG, PTA, Impedance etc. which helps in locating the site and cause of vertigo. After diagnosis patient is treated with medicines or with exercises or with both depending on cause and site of lesion.
